Terms of use.

These are the terms for using Tao on your Mac. By downloading or using Tao you agree to them. They are meant to be short and readable.

What you can do

Tao gives you a personal, non-exclusive license to install and use the app on Macs you own or control. You keep everything you put in it. Tao claims no rights to your tasks, notes or exports.

Please do not copy, resell, or redistribute the app, remove its notices, or reverse engineer it except where the law lets you.

Your data

Your tasks live on your Mac, and you are responsible for backing them up. Tao makes local backups, but a lost disk is still a lost disk. How Tao handles information is described in the privacy page.

AI features and your key

AI features need your own OpenRouter key and your own OpenRouter account. You pay OpenRouter and the model providers directly, under their terms. Models can be wrong. Check what Tao proposes before you rely on it, and do not use it for anything where a mistake could cause serious harm. You are responsible for what you ask Tao to do and what you approve.

No warranty, limited liability

Tao is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We are not liable for lost data, lost time, or indirect or consequential damages from using Tao. Where the law does not allow that, our total liability is limited to what you paid for Tao, which may be nothing.

Updates and changes

Tao may check for and offer updates. We may change the app or these terms, and we will post new terms on this page with a new date. If you keep using Tao after a change, you accept it. You can stop at any time by deleting the app.
